Jera formed in winter 2020 in front of a mug of beer, from the merger of two alternative metal bands from Italy. Fronted by vocalist Federico Leggeri, guitarists Bruno Malevoli and Giulio Poggi, drummer Gabriele Mazzarri and bass player Duccio Pellati, Jera decided to combine metalcore and melodic death metal musical influences to create new songs inspired by the Norse mythology. Jera announced their breakthrough in the metalcore and alternative music scene with a five-track EP, featuring the main track "Mother of Nine" and a music video. In 2022, they released the single track "Destined Death," followed by single and music video of "Burden" in 2023, accompanied by live dates across Italy. In 2024 they announced the new frontman Riccardo Turi and new drummer Marco Visconti.
Jera's sound features riffs marked by the typical glacial sounds of Swedish metal with Metalcore pattern, alternating heavy verses and melodic interludes and choruses. Songs tell stories of the past and present by drawing lessons from the heroes and victims of long ago, transmitting the importance of the cyclical nature of existence.
